We%26#39;re driving up to Vegas next week from Tucson. Any route suggestions for hitting some part of the Grand Canyon on the way without going too far off the path?
I%26#39;ve never been to the Grand Canyon before so I%26#39;m not even sure how realistic it is to try to see it in a few hours. How do you get up there? LOL!
Grand Canyon?
Hi
I would think it is about 6 hours drive just to get to the canyon from Tucson. You would have to drive to Flagstaff, which could be on your way to Vegas then it%26#39;s about another hour or so from there to the canyon. I would think you would really have to have a stopover or drive for many hours and make a very long day of it!!!

Grand Canyon?
Straight shot from Tucson to LV is roughly 400 miles, going from Tucson to GC and onwards to LV is 610 miles.
Tucson to GC is 340 and GC to Vegas is 270.
I would say an overnight is really what you want to do.
There are plenty of options outside the GC border to stay the night.
That way you could get to see the sunset and the sunrise the next day which are both pretty awesome.
You can get a nice look at the canyon in a couple of hours, unless you want to go hiking of course.
Here%26#39;s the link to TA Grand Canyon forum. You%26#39;ll get better answers to your questions there.

The short route is via a lonely mostly 2-lane highway through Wickenburg and Wickieup northwest from Phoenix. Since the speed limit is lower, the time difference is not as great as it sounds.
Route to the GC from Tucson is I-10 west to Phoenix, I-17 north to Flagstaff, I-40 west to Williams, Hwy 64 north to GC. Takes about 4.5- 5 hours. Then it is about the same time from GC to LV. With 9-10 hous of driving, it%26#39;s not realistic to try tp spend a few hours at GCNP, especially at this time of year when daylight is less. If you can take the time, spend an overnight at GCNP or nearby. That would give you an afternoon and a morning to see the canyon.
