Best days to visit Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon.

I am arriving in Vegas Wednesday, we are renting a car and driving to the grand canyon and hoover dam on two different days. so we would have Thursday, Friday and Saturday to do the trips. what days would be best to go? Day with least amount of tourists.

thanks

If you are flying straight into Vegas from the Uk going to the Grand Canyon on Thursday will be a bit much. It really is a long drive and perhaps an overnight stay there would be better. This time of year the weather may be a bit unpredictable as well which may give you problems re sight seeing. The Hoover Dam is about 45 minutes away and easily done in a half day. Thought it a bit creepy but that was me. I would have to say Thursday and Friday would be the best days.

I%26#39;m not coming from London, England....I am from London, Ontario

I am assuming that you were thinking of doing both Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon as day trips? If so - it is about a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon South Rim, and Hoover Dam is on your route anyway. So I would suggest visiting Hoover Dam on your way to Grand Canyon, that way you could spend the night at the canyon instead of spending 10+ hours on the road doing the canyon as a day trip.

Hi Dougie93

We did the trip you are thinking of in 2006. We hit Laughlin first and then headed across to Kingman, Az. and then Williams (turn left there) to get to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We returned by going back to Kingman and then headed to the dam up the east side of the river, drove across the dam and then did the dam tour. I think it would be easier to just head from L.V. direct to the dam, do the tour, cross the dam, head for Kingman, and then the Grand Canyon. The south rim of the canyon is at a high elevation (above 4000%26#39;) so bring warm coats even if it is nice in L.V. Also, I don%26#39;t know what the prices for hotels\motels right at the canyon are but we stayed in Williams, Az. for the nite at a reasonably clean and nice motel (they were little cabins) on the eastern end of town for very little money. I think about $40. per nite. Also, for a good meal in Williams, Az. the ';Route 66 Roadhouse'; I think??? An old converted gas station. Was very good food.

I don%26#39;t believe it will be all that busy at any time right now as Thanksgiving is over and no holidays until Christmas. If you are concerned about being too busy go on Thurs. and Fri. Maybe just check if there are any conventions going on in L.V. on the weekend.

Elevation at GCNP South Rim is 7200%26#39;, and it is cold there at this time of year.
