Back home from our first trip....observations on Vegas.

Well, instead of going to florida we went to Vegas for our 40th aniversary...it seemed a good idea when we booked.

We both have stressful jobs (very in my case) and we thought it would be a chill-out as well as somewhere new.

Positives: The gambling was good as we won a small amount (a couple of hundred dollars on the week!).

The hotels and casinos were good to look round but really apart from the facades they were all the same.

The weather was brill.

Negatives:

Up around the Stratosphere was not an area to walk alone in.

About a quarter of the strip was a building site and the bus took over an hour in traffic jams to go two miles.

Men lined the pavement in many areas on the strip advertising the girls they had for sale. They even put their cards with pictures of the girls in my bag as I passed by with my wife.Prostitution is legal in Nevada.

The strip reminded me of Las Ramblas in Barcelona..jam packed.

Vegas is not a place for a relaxing, peaceful holiday but we may go back when we no longer need to have a break to chill out . PS BMI was a brilliant airline to fly with.

I agree with everything you said

1- Vegas is fun and relaxing for all those that enjoy gambling and drinking. A care free attitude.

2- Prostitution is actually NOT legal in Las vegas. So those girls work under the title of ';Escort Service';

3- If you checked with us, here, in advance, we would have told you that you should not walk (or there is no point in walking) North of the Wynn

4- Beyond the facades, the hotels are not the same, there are great restaurants and activities in most hotels.

I am surprised that the only positive thing, you have to say about your trip, is, the $200 win

Thanks for sharing your comments. A few observations:

';The hotels and casinos were good to look round but really apart from the facades they were all the same.';

I can%26#39;t see how you%26#39;ve come to that particular conclusion.

A lot of your negatives are issues that are raised frequently on this forum. Did you do your research? Had you done so you might not have been so disappointed by certain things (construction, slow buses, porn slappers).

';Prostitution is legal in Nevada';

Only in certain counties. It%26#39;s most certainly very illegal in Las Vegas and the rest of Clark County.

As I said, I%26#39;m glad you enjoyed some aspects of your trip and hopefully you%26#39;ll return.

I never knew anyone would think Las Vegas is relaxing. I need a vacation when I get back from Vegas everytime because I am worn out ragged. My thinking in Vegas is I can always sleep, go on a diet and quit drinking when I get back home.

You%26#39;re right, Vegas is not the place to go if you%26#39;re looking into rest and relaxation. It ususally takes me a couple of week to re-coup. For a more relaxing trip, I would suggest some of the properties off-strip like Red Rock where they are self contained.

Personally, I think porn-slapping should be banned.

most of the negatives are discussed here daily - the fact is LV is crowded.

I%26#39;m sorry you didn%26#39;t relax - LV is actually a destination we do relax quite well. we always stay at a great property with restaurants we enjoy and a good pool and spa. 5 days at wynn, TheHotel or venetian can be exceptionally relaxing - never venture outside, enjoyt the spa and pool everyday, golf and tennis, nice dinners, room service breakfast and a good show. not as relaxing as a week on a boat in the islands, still can be a great wind-down place - if that is what you make it. One of the allures of LV is the variety - you can make it what you want. many of our trips we donlt leave the property except to taxi or limo to a show or restaurant - that%26#39;s it.

once you decide to venture off property you face the hustle and bustle.

Hi Leeds,

Sorry to hear your comments but glad you found some positives.

To me, Vegas is considerably more relaxing than Florida, at least mentally. If I lie on a beach somewhere, it%26#39;s great for a day or so. After that, I%26#39;m thinking about work, what I%26#39;m missing, is everything being taken care of, are my kids OK, etc.

When I go to Vegas, I%26#39;m too occupied (or is it inebriated???) to think about these things. I may come home physically tired, but I%26#39;ve had a good mental break.

I too am suprised about your LV disappointment. It is a long way to go from Leeds and not be happy.

I am not a big gambler but love LV. It is my time and I always find something great to do whether it is just relaxing by the pool, getting pampered at the spa, shopping, eating at some great restaurants, seeing some great shows or just people watching.

I know those people trying to hand out cards on the strip can be annoying but I believe the powers that be in LV have not been successful in stopping it legally. Prostitution is illegal.

The traffic is very telling. It seems that many want to be there which is reflected in much construction %26amp; traffic.

Give LV another try in the future at the time of year when it is not so busy.

We%26#39;ve never been to Vegas, but have our first trip booked for next June. I don%26#39;t envision Vegas as being relaxing at all which is why we booked a remote guest house in San Diego for the week after Vegas. That will be the relaxing part of our trip.

That said, any trip can be relaxing or chaotic, depending on what you like to do. When we go to the beach, I personally can%26#39;t stand to sit on the beach all day every day. I like to shop, see the local attractions, etc. I have a friend who is happy just to sit on the beach all day for a whole week. To each his own.

Last week was only my 2nd time visiting Vegas since I was 16, and I am 45 now. I was prepared for anything and everything. Were there things I didn%26#39;t like??, a few, but not enough to keep me away.

I was so overwhelmed with excitement of the hotels and nightlife, I felt more cheated by leaving after 4 nights, than I did losing money at the penny slot machines. I am definitely not a gambler, but Vegas has something for everyone. The only words I sadly whispered to my husband when it was time to leave, ';I wish we had more time';!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
