So many choices! Where oh whwer to Stay?

I%26#39;m going to go to Vegas mid Feb 2008 and have just been looking at the web sites. How in the name of heavens would you choose where to stay. I%26#39;m traveling by myself and would like to check out a couple of casinos ( for slots) Helicopter over the Grand Canyon and take the raft trip from the Hoover Dam. This will be a once only trip for me so I would like to indulge myself a bit. Any suggestions as to where I should stay and anything else I ';Must See';

Thanks

So many choices! Where oh whwer to Stay?

I don%26#39;t think anyone here is going to be able to help you unless you provide more information. How much are you willing to spend per night? What are you looking for- luxury? basic? It is nice to stay at a hotel that is centrally located for you visit but that can mean anything from the Bellagio (luxury) to Bill%26#39;s (basic). Even for the Must Sees- what are your interests? Are you looking for attractions? Shows? Restaurants? More information is needed.

The budget of hotel will usually exclude a lot of places. Also, some hotels are better fits based on age so that would be useful to know.

If you%26#39;re just not sure where to stay and money isn%26#39;t an issue, why don%26#39;t you check out the reviews and see what hotels get the best score. I really wouldn%26#39;t say that it matters where you pick to stay, because if you%26#39;re planning on making going to Vegas a routine, why not try to check out all the properties and stay at a different place each time.

Personally, I%26#39;m trying to stay at a different property everytime I go, I think that%26#39;s part of the excitement of going.

In answer to your questions $175 to $225 per night

I think I will go to The Blue Man Show

Not really much for attractions..Maybe the wax museum

Some Shopping

A couple of casinos(slots)

Hoover Dam

Grand Canyon (Helicopter tour)

I have read some of the reviews which is great but there are loads of places to stay. Just need to know which hotel in my price range is more central for my plans. Does any one place stand out?

To indulge yourself try staying center strip. With your price range you may be able to get a nicer property, depending on the exact dates. The friday and saturday stays are more expensive. Look at Bellagio, Paris, Caesars. You really have more choices than those 3 though, those are just centrally located.

With that budget you can get a nice room and go to several shows. I would recommend either Mystere or LOVE for Cirque show.

Once you decide on where are are staying you can check out the restaurants there and try one or two.

Keep on coming back to this forum and read posts/topics that relate to things you have choosen

Hope this helps.

If you%26#39;re going by yourself, are you going to spend much time in the room? For $175 a night, the center strip suggestions are good.... I like the MGM props and their player%26#39;s club the best, but CP or Paris are good options, probably a bit lower than Bellagio or Venetian.

I%26#39;d agree with Paris. I think your dollar will get you more at paris than in, say, Ceasars Palace or Bellagio (fine establishments that they are). Paris is also very central on the strip. For a first time, once only trip I would not even contemplate staying off the strip.

Helicopter tours are easy to book on the Strip. In fact, you%26#39;ll find the salesmen will find you pretty quickly when you%26#39;re wandering up and down. Take your time and let them bid against each other. Rates vary depending on where you take off and where you land, but I believe a trip that sets you down in the Canyon for half an hour or so costs about $250. My tip would be to book one that will put you down at noon so you get the sun above you, otherwise the canyon will be in shadow, it will be cool and your photos won%26#39;t be so good. I know others may disagree, but if I did it again I%26#39;d not bother landing inside the canyon. It sounds more impressive than it is, because my view is that the ';money shot'; is from the rim looking down. Also find out where they take off from, you want one that takes off from the strip, not somewhere outside like Boulder (takes time to get there)

Pools, and probably raft trips, will not be a factor in the Feb 55 degree weather

Planet Hollywood has a great location, and rooms a little nicer than Paris. Either would be good. I usually get a better view, and more likely to get upgraded, at Planet Hollywood than Paris

Ballys, connected to Paris, has nice large remodeled rooms and quick easy access to all Paris facilities

Enjoy a couple of the best versions of the Vegas buffet at Paris and Planet Hollywood

MGM is very nice, well kept rooms, good location, convenient food court, many restaurants, good location near a lot to see. Great pool, which won%26#39;t matter in Feb

Thank you to all who responded to my questions. You have given me a great starting point for planning my trip.

Cheers
