Hilton

Stying at the Hilton in early July, I cannot get a feel for this place. I have seen reviews that are both good and bad. Any more help available?

Hilton

We stayed there in May and were happy with it. It is about a 10 minute walk off the strip. Nice pool, and the theme slot areas were a good touch. The lines to check in and out could get really long, lots of frustrated faces. The line for the buffet could also get pretty long. Room, bed, and view were great.

Hilton

You will find both good and bad reviews on EVERY hotel in Las Vegas. You will have to decide for yourself. I only visited the Hilton for business about 10 years ago so I can%26#39;t help you. As an example, I stayed at Circus Circus because the Govt. didn%26#39;t pay that much per diem to stay at the Hilton. All you hear is negative remarks about Circus Circus. It was full of kids and did have a peculiar smell to it, but the rooms in the tower were nice and I have stayed there 3 times so far. You find negative remarks about the newest one Wynn also, so just go, have a good time and write a review when you return.

Last time I stayed there was in February. It is a large hotel that can have big conventions housed there (it%26#39;s right next door to the convention center).

I%26#39;ve always found the rooms clean and comfortable, larger than other hotels I%26#39;ve seen. Decor is nothing to write home about.

Service can be somewhat slow, specially at check-in or check-out times. Very l-o-n-g lines. Food ranges from bad (buffet) to excellent (Steakhouse). They have several bars and restaurants, including Benihana%26#39;s, Margarita Grill (good Mexican fare) and Quark%26#39;s (Star Trek-themed restaurant - food like Bennigan%26#39;s or Friday%26#39;s).

Had luck in the casino and found staff there very friendly.

There is a monorail station right outside the hotel, which makes visiting both ends of the Strip quite easy, convenient and not expensive at all.

Hope this helps.

I stayed there for an American Federation of Teachers convention (our best attended convention in history - no surprise) and took an odd-timed flight. By leaving at a somewhat inconvenient time for most convention travelers, early in the morning, I missed the long check in lines.

So, if you get the sense your flight is full of conventioners, take the bump or try for an earlier flight - it%26#39;ll save you some real time. If you do get caught in line, they give you champagne while you wait. The gaming area is right by the check-in area, so you can go lose some money while you wait for the line to go down.

Other than the line, it was a really nice hotel and being off the strip wasn%26#39;t a big deal at all.

I stayed there in March.

The thing with the Hilton is this: unlike a lot of Las Vegas hotels, it does not have a style or theme. It is not ';old style'; like Riviera, Stardust, Sahara etc. It does not have a theme like the newer properties. It%26#39;s not a family or young-adult oriented place.

It is essentially a big hotel, very comfortable and big rooms (the renovated ones), and convenient accessibility via monorail to the strip. It is not, however, romantic: it is functional. It has a big casino (great sportbook), and a smaller space-oriented casino. That%26#39;s the closest thing to a theme: in the daytime you have all the star trek stuff and the Ferengi blackjack dealers, etc.

For the price (when no conventions in town), it%26#39;s a steal. But if you%26#39;re looking for a romantic place, you better go with places like the Paris, Caesar, Venetian, etc.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Hilton a couple of times. Nothing stands out about this hotel, and it%26#39;s too far north on the strip for me. Both times I%26#39;ve been there, I got upgraded without asking (it pays to be a girl). ;-) The suites are decent, with a nice view. Overall, pretty bored at this place. Would I stay there again ? Probably not.

We stayed at the Hilton in April. Its not bad. We didn%26#39;t have any problem checking in, but with no convention in town, it was quiet. The room was very nice, big and clean newer furnishings with a strip view. Ask for the north tower. We ate at the buffet and did not find it awful. It is a basic buffet, nothing fancy. My husband played blackjack in the mornings, not bad rules and $5 a hand until 11 or 12. Blackjack at the space casino area is single deck, but only pays 6:5. The VP is pretty good. We shared a monorail 10 ride pass to go down to the strip. The only bad thing was how expensive meals were there. My husband and I are are sort of cheap (we admit it!), and $25 bucks for breakfast in the cafe when all I had was a bagel is a bit much. We found returning to the hotel after a day on the strip with all the crowds was actually restful. If you are after a wild and crazy place this is not it.

We stayed there in May and it worked well for us. Reasonable price, quiet (no conventions that week) and the monorail was very convenient. We were asked if we wanted the upgrade rooms - asked what the difference - they said for $50 we would get a plasma TV, refrigerator, and coffee maker. We don%26#39;t drink coffee and didn%26#39;t come to Vegas to watch TV so took the standard room. It was large, comfortable, overlooked a golf course, pond and the strip with desert view in the background. The buffet was the best deal food wise - included free beer and wine and plenty of variety. The days of cheap food to attract tourists seem to be gone forever!

Manlow wasn%26#39;t there the two nights we stayed unfortunately.

I enjoyed gambling at the Hilton, it was a friendly atmosphere and the table limits were reasonable. The problem with the Hilton is that it is off-Strip. It%26#39;s not convenient to walk to and from the Hilton to anywhere. Yes, the monorail stops at the Hilton, but you don%26#39;t want to be paying $5 every time you go to and from your hotel. Finally, there isn%26#39;t much in the way of nightlife or great restaurants at the Hilton.

If you are attending a convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center, the Hilton would be an ideal place to stay. Otherwise, it%26#39;s a bit out of the way. If they had a free shuttle that would take you to center Strip somewhere, it would be a much more attractive option.

Is TA messed up again? Why are we responding to a 2-year old post?
