Dim Sum?

I am looking for some good Chinese restaurants serving dim sum - Hong Kong style - with the serving carts going around the dining room. I have tried the one at the Gold Coast, but the service is verrrry sloooow! I will be arriving Sunday for a week at the LV Hilton condos.

Dim Sum?

Cathay House (5300 Spring Mountain Road) 702-876-3838

Chang%26#39;s Hong Kong Cuisine (4670 S. Decatur Blvd) 362-3663

These are the 2 local places frequented by Chinese for Dim Sum.

If you want the best in town it is at Ping Pang Pong at 4000 West Flamingo aka as Gold Coast Casino. No rental car required and a little less expensive than Cathaway House.

Been to Chang%26#39;s, it%26#39;s a little distance from the LV Hilton, but if you have a car, this won%26#39;t be an issue. The food is pretty good for LV standards. You might get better service if you can speak Cantonese; the manager helped served me b/c I told the lady what type of tea I wanted in Chinese. My DD like Haw Gow, and when the manager came over and asked me how’s everything was, I asked him when the Haw Gow was coming out (waited over 40 minutes), he said “wait a minute” (in Chinese), and brought one out from the kitchen for me. Overall, the service seems to be pretty good, and the food comes out in a nice steady pace.

Since you%26#39;ve tried Gold Coast (Ping Pang Pong) already, let your tastebuds be your judge, try Cathay House or Chang%26#39;s, then you can tell us your opinion.

Noodles in Bellagio

Noodles serves no Dim Sum.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my request.

vegashomeboy - I enjoyed the food at PPP in the Gold Coast, but the slow service was unbelievable during my three lunch visits. I also don%26#39;t understand why chao siu bao or siu mai are not available each day (and I was there before 11 am!). It%26#39;s like going to McDonalds and there are no hamburgers available.

vegas257 - I will try Chang%26#39;s, but I am wary of your story about the haw gow. It sounds like my experience at PPP.

Agree with you Btown on har gow, siu mai, chau siu bow, cheung fun (white long rice noodle sheets wrapped with beef, chau siu, or shrimp). These are classic dishes at any dim sum places, should never run out.

The other hallmark of how good their dim sum is by looking at the wrappers. Wrappers of har gow, fun gow, cheung fun etc shouldnt be too thick nor too thin, should be al dente and not too sticky to the chopsticks. Siu mai which has similar skin like won ton but wrapped differently should have similar mouth feel which has the right amount of pork fat inside to make it juicy.

The serving ladies make their rounds with the carts, it is possible you may have missed the cart of what you want. In that case, just ask one of the waiters to bring out whatever you like. And of course if you speak Chinese (as myself do) you would have no problem. But the popular dishes even in english they should somewhat understand.
