Inexpensive magic shows near the Excalibur?

The wife and son and I are staying at the Excalibur the last weekend of November. We already have booked Blue Man Group and Mystiere for Saturday and Sunday nights. My son loves magic, and I%26#39;d like to take him to see some somewhere, preferably not too expensive, and probably during the day if that is possible.

Any ideas at all? Maybe it can%26#39;t happen, and it doesn%26#39;t matter too much, but maybe someone has an idea. Thanks a lot.

Inexpensive magic shows near the Excalibur?

Xtreme Magic with Dirk Arthur is at the Tropicana it is a fairly inexpensive (about $20) and it is a good show for kids. He features big cats in his shows.

I got tickets at the tix4tonite booth, only downside is then you have to go to the show box office and get real tickets then you have to stand in line to get a good seat as the tix4tonite tickets are general admission only. If you pay full price however you will get an assigned seat and you don%26#39;t have to wait in line. There are matin茅es (about 30) and evening shows (between $60 and $70).

Sorry correction he has two matinees (no evening shows) at 2pm and 4pm and they are both between $31dollars a ticket and $38 dollars (regular price).

';Hans Klok-The Beauty of Magic is the hottest new show on The Strip,'; according to Extra-TV. With a cast of 20 international dancers, over 40 illusions and the one-and-only Pamela Anderson, it%26#39;s the biggest magic show Vegas has seen in years!

Now for a limited time only you can use a special password/code to buy one ticket get one free for this amazing Vegas show!

Hurry, this limited time offer is only available for purchase until December 8.

Take him to the afternoon show of Mac King at Harrahs. You can%26#39;t go wrong. Not really close to Excaliber, but very easy to get to. Jump on the monorail at MGM and take it to Harrahs.

Chadman - See Dirk Arthur only if you get tix from free spin wheel outside of the Trop. Do Not pay for this show. IMHO it is the cheeziest show in Vegas. Dirk has a great trick and does it over and over. I could not quit laughing - so I guess I had a great time. My friends and I love to relive that ';magic'; show whenever we get together.

Spin the wheel out front and you will definately get your money%26#39;s worth.

Have fun.

Cheers,

i think that there are deals making this guy cheap

Cadman,

Glad to hear that your son loves magic, as a magician myself I look forward to a good show and you would think in Vegas you have a lot of options. And yes there are a fair number of shows, but not all of them are created equal.

Here%26#39;s my take and I hope your son enjoys himself.

1) There is a wide variety in pricing for tickets to magic shows and they are not always in line with the quality of the show.

2) Dollar for dollar the best show in town in Mac King. As a magician I love him , my 16 year old son has seen his show twice with me and would go again in a heartbeat, and my wife thinks he%26#39;s the second best magician she%26#39;s ever seen (smart woman). He is at Harrah%26#39;s which isn%26#39;t next door to Excalibur, but it%26#39;s also not that far. He has two mid-day shows and if you get there a little early you can pick up coupons that get you into the show for the cost of a drink. You can get the coupons either in the Carnival Court or a couple of other places inside the hotel. He is a comedy magician who is great at both, and he loves his audience. At the end of the show he is at the back of the room to take pictures with and sign autographs. All of your family will love him, you won%26#39;t have to worry about anything inappropriate, and you can%26#39;t beat the price. This is my #1 recommendation.

2) If you want a show that is more full blown magic show......go see the guy down the street who grew up with Mac King and is still his best friend.....Lance Burton. His show is more money, but again, for what you get it%26#39;s worth it. Tickets are in the $65-$70 range, which is about average for a full Vegas show. As a magician, and as a person Lance is one of the best around. It%26#39;s a big show, done well, and worth the price. At Monte Carlo, it is fairly close to the Excalibur.

3) As far as quality of the show, and worth the money, the only other show I would recommend is World%26#39;s Greatest Magic. The pros to this show are the hard working rotating ensemble of magicians that are in it, they do a great job. The cons are it is at the Greek Isles which is on the other end of the strip, and it is actually more than Lance Burton.

3) Do not;;;;;;;;unless like a previous poster said, you get free tickets...pay to see any of the following shows (if your son likes magic, he will tell you afterward these are ';lame shows dad';)

Dirk Arthur- The only thing he has going for him is that he%26#39;s the only one using big cats in his act still, but as a magician he%26#39;s boring.

Steve Wyrick.........just don%26#39;t bother (think lounge magician)

David Copperfield........way overpriced, way over impressed with himself.......way being investigated by the FBI.......not a good role model.

Nathan Burton- comeday magician......he%26#39;s so-so, but costs more than Mac King, isn%26#39;t as funny as Mac, and not as good a magician (think kid%26#39;s birthday party)

4) Shows that are good but won%26#39;t suit your situation:

Penn %26amp; Teller- One of the best shows out there, but expensive, and not for kids.

Amazing Jonathan- Also good at what he does, known as the Freddy Krueger of magic so he has an 18 and over age limit.

Hans Klok- Is the one show I have mixed feelings about recommending......he is an amazing performer known for his rapid fire magic, and is fairly new to the Vegas scene.......I%26#39;ve seen him perform several times and love his magic. The two things are...ticket prices start at $50 if available, then jump to $80. And second he makes no bones about the fact that whether he has Pamela Anderson or Carmen Elektra in the act, he%26#39;s using them to sell it. So you would have to decide based on your son%26#39;s age if it was appropriate. He IS a very good magician that your son would enjoy

5) Last piece of input......if he loves magic, take him to one of the Houdini%26#39;s magic shops in town and let him do some shopping. The neat thing about the way they have these set up, is that once you buy a trick they take you to a back room and show you how it%26#39;s done and give you some tips, so your son isn%26#39;t just on his own.

Well, hope that helps......love to encourage young magic devotees (if you want to score some points with him tell to check out ellusionist.com......he%26#39;ll think it%26#39;s very cool)

The best afternoon show is the Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrahs at 1 and 3 it is reasonable or you can get discount tickets. It is a fantastic show, you will laugh the whole time while you are being amaze. Have a great time in whatever show you decide on.

I also agree with previous posts... the Mac King is THE best afternoon comedy/magic value for the money. He%26#39;s hilarious AND a quite talented magician --and nothing that would make you want to cover your kid%26#39;s ears (or eyes). You can almost always get coupons from the Carnaval Court so the show is ';free'; with a one-drink minimum (which makes it $9.95 per person). If you have a total rewards card, you can almost always get the tickets TRULY free from the Total Rewards booth.

When I go to Vegas with someone who%26#39;s never been, I always recommend this show.

1 pm and 3 pm daily.
