TR 11/18-11/21-Excalibur Widescreen Room

Just now caught up on sleep enough to write coherently. A quick trip report for those interested in Excalibur%26#39;s new remodeled rooms.

TR 11/18-11/21-Excalibur Widescreen Room

Allegiant Air. Good flight for a good price as usual.

Check in at Excalibur - not a single person in line. The benefit of arriving Sunday night on a slow week in November.

The remodeled rooms - well worth the $10 to upgrade. If you liked the Ex well enough to stay before, you will definitely be happy with the remodel. Much brighter, nice fixtures, the beds are comfy. The widescreens are nice, picture not so great but I think that was more system reception than the tv%26#39;s themselves. But I only had the tv on about 15 minutes the whole trip, so whatever. I would say overall the rooms are WAY better. As nice as many others on the strip, at a much better price. We wouldn%26#39;t hesitate to go back or recommend it to our friends. (oh, and as usual, no throng of kids)

The casino - a blast as always. Played lots of BJ and our group learned the magic of Pai-Gow Poker. If you have a group of 4 or 5 it is a blast to take over a table for a few hours. You can play and drink ';free'; drinks for hours and only be up or down a few $$$$.

My only complaint is that I expected loads of room at all of the tables since it was during the week (our first non-weekend trip), which wasn%26#39;t the case. They still only opened enough tables to have them all be jam-packed. Instead of 10 BJ tables, there were only 2 or 3. Frustrating, but the same at all of the casinos, it seemed.

Went downtown for the first time in all our visits, and LOVED IT!! Our group of 4 spent about 4 hrs at a BJ table at the Golden Nugget, and had a blast. We are thinking about maybe staying at the Nugget sometime. Anyone want to give me their input on that???

Gallagher%26#39;s for Dinner at NYNY - perfect steaks as always. I can never understand the haters of Gallagher%26#39;s. We have always had an amazing meal there.

Mesa Grill at CP - our first time there. Very good, but the swordfish was a little too spicy for my wife. I definitely recommend the Pork Tenderloin. AMAZING!!

Other than that, mostly gambling and drinking....I know, boring but it%26#39;s what we like.

Ready to go back again ASAP. Maybe the Golden Nugget next time?????

Glad you enjoyed the Excalibur, I%26#39;ve never stayed there myself.

If you gamble downtown in the future, try the bj at the 4 Queens or Golden Gate. They have the 3:2 bj not the 6:5 like the Nugget.

Thanks for your TR,

Good to hear about your experience, and to have someone give good news about Excal for a change.

Have never stayed downtown but always consider it too. Many others swear by it, so I suggest taking the plunge.

Thanks for the advice varment, but I am always very conscious of the 6:5 as I have played BJ for a long time and we were able to find several 3:2 tables at the GN. It WAS a six deck shoe, but we were okay with that. I won%26#39;t sit at the 6:5 tables....I take that back. My friends enjoy the dealertainers at IP, so we did sit there for a while, although I wasn%26#39;t too thrilled about that part of it.

Helllloooooooo.....that is exactly what many of us keep trying to tell others here on the forum. Downtown is a fun time, and I am glad you enjoyed yourself.

I also appreciate your comments about the Excal since we stayed there and didn%26#39;t like the dark gothic style, so I am willing to give it another try for the right price :)

I love the Golden Nugget--been staying there for about 6 years now. It%26#39;s convenient, rooms are nice and comfortable, hotel staff is very accomodating and the shark pool is beautiful.

Plus, you can wander in and out of casinos without ever getting bored [tho%26#39; I could never use the term %26#39;bored%26#39; in conjunction with the word ';Vegas';!! :-)

Glad you enjoyed the Excalibur....We stayed in a remodelled room in September and thought it was worth the extra money.

I%26#39;m so glad you had a good trip. Thanks for the info about the Ex. We are staying there in 2 weeks and 2 days in a widescreen room and I can%26#39;t wait!!!

Thanks for the great Trip report. I am not one of those who find any trip reports (especially the gambling ones) boring.

Thanks for sharing.
