is el cortez dangerous place?

visiting vegas dec. 9th , i love downtown but is the el cortez casino a dangerous place to walk around with money? thanks for all your help , saucey

is el cortez dangerous place?

Nooooooo!!!!!!

Last month, MadokaRN, Spike3x, and myself all spent a great evening downtown on the ';East Fremont'; side outside the Magical Canopy.

MadokaRN and I (both females) were really impressed with the El Cortez. We didn%26#39;t stay there, but we hung out there for awhile. It was clean, light, had wide aisles between the slots, great bar and piano bar area.......and nice public bathrooms!!! =)

Yes we had Spike with us....but even if we didn%26#39;t I would have felt safe there.

As always....anywhere you go....don%26#39;t flaunt your money. Only take what you need with you, and just be smart about it. I%26#39;d give you the same advice on the strip!

is el cortez dangerous place?

El is not in a dangerous place, but it is a bit further than the Fremont experience.

I would be more careful walking there after 2 AM (between 2 AM and 6 AM)

CO, regardless of, if you show your money or not, everyone knows that tourists carry cash, LOL

Very Very dangerous....beware of a large group of 8 drunk people, 4 in tuxedos...they may smell severly of booze.lol

The only time I might be uncomfortable would be if I were walking to and from El Cortez, at night, by myself. Being a guy, I would still do it, but I could understand a female alone not wanting to. The El Cortez casino itself is as safe as any other casino in Vegas, if not more so. Look at it this way - If you planned to rob a stranger in Las Vegas to get money, would you go to El Cortez or Wynn to find your target? :)

COTravelfan - Just as a point of reference, when I was at ElCo in September, the men%26#39;s restroom was not particularly commendable.

That%26#39;s true MM.....but if I were a thief or robber ......I%26#39;d certainly be eyeing up someone who was whipping out a huge money clip...or pulled out their wallet and flipped through a bunch of a bills .....than I would someone who was just grabbing a $20 to pay for drinks!

I guess that%26#39;s why I was saying people should be smart wherever they go.....I%26#39;ve seen so many prime pickpocket opportunities in Vegas.....women who don%26#39;t zip their purses......guys with wallets literally hanging out of their back pockets.....etc. both on the strip and downtown.

Yeah, all tourists have cash.....but hopefully they%26#39;re not carrying their entire trips worth of money on them at one point!!!

BTW....I%26#39;m not a thief, robber, or pickpocket.....I just play one on TV...=)

Stratton....

Sorry the guys bathrooms weren%26#39;t great!!! We didn%26#39;t check those out, but the women%26#39;s were good! LOL.....must be a woman thing!=)

Just as a separate note...my aunt and her friend (both females and in their early 50%26#39;s) stayed for 4 nights at the El Co this last summer....they walked to and from the canopy late at night (after midnight) and had no issues. They both commented on the bike cops in the area and the security presence. We also saw bike cops hanging out the night we were down there.

COTravelfan - Maybe they just don%26#39;t get as many female patrons at ElCo since it%26#39;s not under the ';magic canopy';, so the ladies%26#39; rooms get less use. Or maybe the male piano player is just a slob, LOL :)

you guys and gals are wonderful , thanks for the info . i just love this website , thankyou thankyou

I will be staying there Sunday night so I will give you my feedback by the end of next week. I did visit the casino in September at night but there were a lot of people traveling back and forth from the FSE and also there is very good security downtown.
