north or south shore

We are a family from Singapore and will spend 3 night at Taho ,driving from San Francisco on 16 -19 Dec.We are told it is a windy road driving to the south shore especially not safe if it snows.

However south shore is more scenic. My children will ski but my hubby and I will just coze around and enjoy the view and drive around.

Should we head north or south ?Which is safer to drive especially we are from Singapore ? Any Cabin will good lake view to recommend ?

north or south shore

South Shore is no more scenic than any other part of the lake. South shore is busier and more populated so if you are talking about seeing people then south shore is more scenic. If you are saying that the drive to south shore is more scenic, that too is a matter of opinion. Driving over the summit on 80 you can see amazing sights as you can see driving through the american river canyon on 50.

If it%26#39;s snowing driving will be a big pain either way.

What is you budget for lodging.

Try a rental agency for south lake tahoe:

North Tahoe my faves are:

north or south shore

South Shore is NOT more scenic. It IS the most developed part of the lake. IT has a WALMART! and lots of chain stores on the low end.

Views around the lake are all beautiful. If it snows both 50 (to south shore ) and 80 (north shore) usually have chain control to slow everyone down.

A cabin with a good lake view will be VERY expensive. A condo will be less. To find rental accomodation a list of local realtors is on the Chamber of Commerce site for north shore

You can check out Third Creek through vrbo.com for rentals in Incline Village or there is the Hyatt Lake Tahoe. For cheaper accomodation, Kings Beach has lots of hotels and condos. You can also look at Northstar for condos, cabins etc.

Tahoe City would be a nice base as well. If you are looking for scenic, family oriented and polished this shouldn%26#39;t be a problem

Gemma’smum,

I’ve seen you post that SLT has a Walmart. I believe that SLT has a Kmart down near the Y right next to the Raleys but I don’t think they have a Walmart.

All of Lake Tahoe is scenic. As mentioned, south shore is not more scenic than other areas. The south shore has more activities and night life at the casinos. The north shore is more quiet. A lakeside cabin would be great if you can afford the expense.

Also, no Walmart at Lake Tahoe. You got to drive to Carson City for that.
