Simple Trip Report from Nov 15 to Nov 18

Having read previous great Trip Reports, my trip report will not compare to them. I don鈥檛 gamble and I don鈥檛 drink, so why go you may ask, I went for a convention.

I will just give you a simple trip report. It will be mostly be about the food that I eat at Las Vegas and what I observe and experience there.

Simple Trip Report from Nov 15 to Nov 18

November 14, 11:00 pm depart from Honolulu, Hawaii. Arrive in Las Vegas on the 15th around 6:00 am. I am going for a convention at the Mandalay Bay. I chose to travel on the red eye so I can save on hotel costs. Just sleep on the plane, right? Well, I will never do that again. For some reason I cannot sleep. I get about a couple of hours of sleep and I just squirm around in my seat. I think I鈥檓 getting too old for this but everyone else seems to have no problem sleeping. Oh well. I鈥檒l have to take a nap when I get to LV.

Check into the M Bay, they have a room with a view of the Strip for me. Wow, it鈥檚 a nice room! Great bathroom, LCD Panel TV, it鈥檚 very nice, view is great too. You get to see the Strip and the mountains in the distance. The sun rises and sunsets are beautiful. I don鈥檛 actually see the sun come up or set but you can see the sky change color and that鈥檚 enough for me.

So on to breakfast! Bridgefan 1 recommended Bouchon. But first got to do some work, use high speed internet connection in the room, why is it sooooo expensive?? Ugh! Before I know it I probably missed breakfast but go to the Venetian anyway. I look all over for Bouchon but can鈥檛 find the restaurant. So I ask the staff and they tell me it鈥檚 in another tower. I finally find it but I have missed breakfast! I look around and find that it鈥檚 a beautiful restaurant. I make a reservation for dinner next day.

I decide to eat something so I go to Postrio, the Wolfgang Puck restaurant. I have soup and pasta and it鈥檚 great. It鈥檚 a beautiful restaurant. The couple next to me had Wienerschnitzel that looked really good! I had an early lunch, by the time I leave there is quite a crowd of people waiting for a table.

I want to walk it off so I decide to try the monorail. Ride the monorail from Harrah鈥檚 to MGM, then walk over to Excalibur and take the tram to M Bay. Sounds easy, but gosh it鈥檚 a really long walk and takes a long time to get from Venetian to M Bay. Back to the room, shower and take a nap. I need it!

Well, coffee in the restaurants was good, especially the better restaurants. Other wise its Starbucks. Buffet coffee is nothing to write home about but what other options does one have, tea?

Oh, yeah, forgot to include that I realize my eyes look like Christopher Lee鈥檚 in one of his Dracula films! I try using eye drops to no avail. Great, a middle aged Asian guy with facial hair and eyes of a drug addict, not a great picture鈥ou know I can almost feel my eyes drying up after I blink!

Go to the trade show reception. Check out all the booths. No presentations to go to today, so I spend some time there and leave.

I go to the Mirage. I got Love tickets! So I have dinner at Stack, thanks gabbygambler! This is a hip, fun restaurant, for the young and for the young at heart. If you like a booming bass with your dinner this is the place. They play hip hop music but also rock, I hear Pink Floyd and U2, I鈥檓 happy. There are no tables in the restaurant so they give me a seat at the lounge/bar area. Beggars can鈥檛 be choosers. Great view of the restaurant and casino, great people watching! I do not realize this at first but this seating is better than the restaurant at least for me. Instead of the waiters in the restaurant serving me, the barmaids serve me. My gosh, they sure know how to pick them! All the women are great looking. Even the bartender! I wonder if they bend down on purpose. I really enjoy the dinner. The food is good, I order the Petit Fillet and it comes with two sauces, really nice. The adult tater tots are good too, crispy on the outside creamy in the inside. I have the cherry Creme Brulee, you have to have a serious sweet tooth to enjoy this. I love dessert but this may be too sweet even for me. All in all I enjoyed my dinner. Like I said it鈥檚 a hip restaurant, more atmosphere than cuisine. And the beautiful women that work there, they are so friendly.

I am ready for Love! I am a huge Beatles fan so I love the show. I might post my views on the show in a separate review. Like I say I am a huge fan so my opinion will not be objective! Really great show!! For Beatles fans this show is a must see!

Go back, shower, go to sleep. Got to rest up for the convention.

November 16

Have breakfast at the Bayside Buffet in the M Bay. Nice buffet but I am not much of a buffet person I realize. Too much of a good thing, it was a good buffet though, now I am stuffed and would like to go back to sleep鈥?/p>

Go to convention and listen to presentations from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Taking naps when there is a gap in the schedule, I need more sleep than I can imagine. It鈥檚 a good convention and I am learning a lot. I am glad I came after all.

I am really beat, so I take a shower and go off to my dinner at Bouchon. It鈥檚 really a great looking restaurant. You really feel like you are in an upscale Paris bistro. Had the special appetizer, a scallop dish, the portion of which would make you want to ask for another order. Main course was another special dish, pork short ribs, meat has been cooked for over 24 hours. The pork is so tender and soft it falls off the bone. It is so delicious and flavorful. For dessert I order warm chocolate cake, forget the French name. Every dish I had was outstanding! This was certainly a memorable dinner. I recommend Bouchon highly! Bridgefan 1, thank you for your recommendation, you got wonderful taste!

I am happily and completely full. But I think it鈥檚 too early for bed so I try my luck with the slots at M Bay. Try WoF, but it gobbles up my money at an alarming rate. I walk around, pass the bar with flat panel TVs showing football games. I realize they are playing the Hawaii-Nevada game. It鈥檚 really important for Hawaii as they want to stay undefeated. So I sit down at a machine near the bar and watch the game. Hawaii is trailing then leading, then trailing. The back up QB is playing for Hawaii. It鈥檚 a really close game and it comes down to the wire with a chance for Hawaii to win with a field goal. The kicker gets iced in the fashion that Mike Shanahan has made popular in the NFL. But the kicker finally delivers and Hawaii wins. I do not openly celebrate, just a whisper of a 鈥榶es!鈥?after the kicker kicks the field goal in, after all its Hawaii vs. Nevada, I do not want to disturb the natives!

Saw the game but also viewed the various interaction between the people at the bar. There was a young guy at the bar playing a video game, an attractive woman comes over to him, actually wraps her arms around him. He shakes his head and she slowly walks away keeping her hand on him till the last second. Couple of minutes go by and his wife/or girl friend comes back. If she only knew! Another couple was having a fun conversation, the man gets up and kisses the woman on the cheek pays for the drinks and leaves. Another man sits down next to the woman, who is very attractive, she starts talking up to this new man. She puts her hand on his knees, etc. I guess what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Unfortunately, I am a party pooper so nothing exciting happens to me鈥?/p>

So anyway, on a happy note, cause Hawaii won, I go back to my room, shower and go to sleep. Tomorrow I want to try the breakfast at Bouchon since I do not have any early morning presentations to go to.

Uhmm!? What the hey? I wake up in the middle of the night for some reason. Its around 3 am and the people next door have started a late nocturnal work out. The woman is clearly having a good time and her partner sounds like he鈥檚 giving it his all. This goes on for a while so I get up, go to the bathroom, come back and I can still hear them. There is no way I can sleep and I know its going to be a challenge to get up tomorrow morning.
