First time Vegas trip for couple

Hello everyone,

I came across this site and now can%26#39;t stop reading up on all your great reviews about Las Vegas. So I am now posting this to get an insight on your tips and advice for my first trip to Vegas on December 15 for four nights.

I am going to Vegas with my girlfriend, this is the first time for us both, so we are pretty excited. I already got the airfare booked, but am running into a tough decision regarding hotels. I have decided on staying at Excalibur for the first night (Saturday), since we are arriving at 9:45pm. And, then taking up either the Mandalay Bay ($210/3 nights), Luxor ($180/3 nights) or MGM Grand ($190/3 nights) offers. Also hoping to try the $20 trick since it%26#39;s going to be Sunday and seems like a low time for Vegas travel that week.

So I%26#39;m pretty much hoping for any advice from previous and frequent Vegas travelers on which hotel to pick? Any good shows for a young couple (I%26#39;m 23 and GF is 21)? And any other sort of ';traveler-only'; advice regarding getting around, what to see, good restaurants good ways to save money (haha since we are both students).

Thanks and Hope to hear from you guys soon

Of the hotels you name I%26#39;d opt for MGM for a first trip to Vegas.

I wouldn%26#39;t even consider the $20 trick in mid December. It%26#39;s the quietest couple of weeks of the year in Vegas (don%26#39;t worry - you%26#39;ll still have a great time!) and hotels will more than likely upgrade you for free if you%26#39;re polite and ask nicely.

Hard to recommend shows without knowing a bit more about your tastes and rough budget.

Thanks for the Reply Blagger,

We are hoping to go to one of the Cirque of Soleil shows for sure, either KA or Mystere? Any recommendations?

And possibly a comedy show that may appeal for the younger crowd.

I%26#39;m thinking of a budget of $500 or a bit more for the 4 nights, including shows, food and getting around. Will I need more or possibly less? We are hoping to go to a few nice, moderate restaurants as well ($50-60 for both).

Why not just stay at one hotel for your whole trip?? For first timers, that would be my suggestion, instead of moving after just one night. I just checked MGM - and you can get $399 for all four nights. Or check www.harrahs.com and put your dates in there. Just a thought!

From your 3 choices, I would say MGM or Mandalay Bay are the better ones.

Also, you might try Paris, see if their rates are similar.

Since it is your first trip, you might spend too much time outside your room, and not enjoy your room and the view, so, why do you want to waste your $20? (anyways, usually it does not work).

The best way to save money is

1- To stay to a cheaper hotel

2- To eat at a regular restaurants

3- Not gamble too much

4- Don%26#39;t drink at bars

5- Don%26#39;t go to clubs

Then again, if you do all the 5 things above, why go to vegas? stay home and save all your money. LOL

Seriously, make sure you know your budget and spend accordingly.

You can spend as little as $20 for dinner or as much as $500

So don%26#39;t charge everything on your credit card

If you%26#39;ve never seen Cirque du Soleil then Mystere is the ideal choice. No need to get the most expensive tickets. All the seats are good.

For comedy on a budget try one of the stand up clubs. Comedy Stop at the Tropicana and The Improv at Harrah%26#39;s are the best known. Second City (a sketch based ensemble show) at the Flamingo is hilarious and Rita Rudner (Harrah%26#39;s) is a good show for a couple to see together.

Out of those hotels I would defiantly would pick Mandalay Bay a lot better property for the price and they have great food their and also it would be easier to change from Excalibur. The others are overprice for their property, they should be a lot cheaper for a lower end hotel.

A good show would be Love or Mystere for a 1st time show. There are so many places that are good to eat. It all depends on what you are looking for, low end or high end and define each.

Some medium places for a quick bite and great food for the price is Margaritaville at Flamingo, Cheesecake Factory at Caesars Forum,

Toby Keith Bar %26amp; Grill at Harrah%26#39;s.

Buffets Harrah%26#39;s, Flamingo, Paris, at Wynn try the 25 points for a free buffet, very easy to do and they give you I believe $10 or $15 free play. The buffet is fantastic with a lot of good choices to eat.

If you gamble make sure to get the player card, you might qualify for free rooms and meals you never know by just having fun. A lot of the properties are tied together thru the player card, so they accumulate at each as one.

Check out O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s and Casino Royale for cheap drinks and fun place.

A must see the Bellagio Fountains in the evening. Look thru post and you can learn a lot of things to do or not to do.

Have a fantastic trip in whatever you decide to do.

I agree with kathyak you might want to check out Harrah%26#39;s properties which are very reasonable and are center strip so it makes it easier getting around on the strip. You could check out their website at www.harrahs.com click on LV and then hotels or reservation and click on all LV hotels and the rates will come up and a description of the room. Just a thought and my opinion on a reasonable and good stay.

';Any good shows for a young couple (I%26#39;m 23 and GF is 21)?';

Spearmint Rhino.

Thanks everyone for your input, please keep on posting.

I got the MGM offer of Sat-Wed ($109, $59, $69 and $59 respectively).

I was hoping to check in on Sunday to possibly obtain a nicer room. Only because something with a jacuzzi/tub would be nice.

Excalibur is offering $91 for the Saturday night and then subsequent nights for MGM.

';Excalibur is offering $91 for the Saturday night';

Young man, you getting ';tooken';. Excalibur is NEVER worth $91 a night, period. And MGM is not a much better choice either, sad to say. MB is the best of those you mentioned and what about Mirage or TI? All those are better than the OLD MGM.

Keep shopping and consider staying Sat. night ';off-strip'; or downtown to save money.

Downtown would actually be a great choice because by the time you get to the hotel it will 11pm and you will probably just want to walk around in a small area checking out a bunch of places as opposed to attempting to figure out ';The Strip'; that late at night.
