How often does it rain in Las Vegas?

Been there three times and never seen a drop of rain. I noticed the end of next when I arrive rain is in the forecast for a couple days.

Does it rain a lot or just showers?

It rained first day we were there in September. My parents got rain too when they went earlier on in the year. I think we were pretty unlucky.

Las Vegas usually gets less than 5 inches of rain per year. It has a ';monsoon season'; during the summer. When it rains then- it RAINS!! You will see spectacular thunderstorms with heavy rains that can produce flash floods. I have also been caught in some pretty impressive hailstorms. And then it disappears as quickly as it appeared! During the rest of the year you can get rain-sometimes it will drizzle rather than produce a lot of rain. You rarely get days and days and days of rain. On rare occasions it has actually snowed in Vegas. Most of the days are sunny with a few cloudy days thrown in.

Surprisingly for the desert, you will see sprinkles more than you may expect, but it might be at the airport and not on the strip or at one area of the strip. It seldom lasts more than a few minutes.

The sidewalks do get extremely slippery and you will notice the outside escalators shut down.

The last time we had heavy rain was in August, where quite a few homes on the westside got flooded.

Whenever I go. A couple of years ago I was with my brother in October (suppposedly drier that time of year) it rained so hard we got stuck in Sam%26#39;s Town. Boulder highway was totally flooded and the large drainage ditch on the side of the hotel was also full. It rained the last time I was there in January, but that isn%26#39;t uncommon for that time of year.

desert (dzrt)

A large, dry, barren region, usually having sandy or rocky soil and little or no vegetation. Water lost to evaporation and transpiration in a desert exceeds the amount of precipitation; most deserts average less than 25 cm (9.75 inches) of precipitation each year, concentrated in short local bursts.

Las Vegas averages 4.5 inches of percipitation per year, hence the reason it%26#39;s a desert city. The wettest month is Feb.

I have only seen rain in Vegas once. I think it was in the month of July and we were walking by the stores towards Harrahs and hubby said he just felt rain, the couple behind us said same thing. Funny thing is that it was raining and you could feel it but the ground was dry. It lasted all of 5 mins. Strangest thing I had ever seen with it not even making the ground wet.

I have only encountered rain in Vegas once and that was in January. I laughed as it was pitiful compared to a real rainstorm like we get in the northeast. If you have seen the streets of Manhattan running like rivers, Las Vegas rain will not bother you.

Stratton-

If you want to see a ';real'; rainstorm in Vegas spend an August in Vegas. As mentioned above that is monsoon season. Ive seen an inch and a half fall in an hour. There are no storm drains only the streets. Ive seen city busses with water up to their windows. Ive seen Boulder Highway washed away taking peoples homes, well if you want to call a trailer a home, with it in a flash flood, and it seems every year people ignore the many billboards and drive into the Charleston underpass (under I-15) which fills with water from the street up to almost touching the freeway.

Vegas doesnt get much rain but when it rains in Aug, it pours. The other times in the year when it rains its usually not much at all, with as mentioned Jan, and Feb being the two months with the better chance of seeing it.

GoodBeer - Why on earth would anyone want to be in Vegas in August, rain notwithstanding? :)
