Vegas- what I wasn't expecting

Got back today from a 4 night stay at the Hilton Vacation club behind the Flamingo. What really surprised me was the amount of cigarette and cigar smoke in the casinos. I wasn%26#39;t ready for it and in some of the older casinos it was noticeably worse than the newer ones. That was a big negative. Saw ';Love'; and thought it was fantastic. My wife was able to get a line pass for alll six of us for the Wynn buffett on turkey day. That was beyond fantastic since the wait was about 13/4 to 2 hours long. Liked Cafe lago for the breakfast buffett for $15.50. Did the tapas thing at Cafe Ba Be Re Ba and also Battista%26#39;s hole in the wall. The Deuce sucked! Took me 35-40 minutes to go from Statosphere to the Wynn!!! I finally got off and walked faster than the bus. It took 55 minutes to get through security this morning at 8:05. I%26#39;ve never seen lines like that before and I%26#39;ve worked at an airport for 30 years.

So, the moral of this story is? Don%26#39;t go to Vegas over a major holiday?

prguy, if you work at O%26#39;Hare, then you must have been off the times the lines were long there! Don%26#39;t you know that it is one of the most hated places in the US? I know it%26#39;s not your fault, just saying!

thanks for posting what reality was - too many times people don%26#39;t consider everything.

many of us here comment regularly on the duece as a very slow means of transpo - and it surely is dependent on TOD and the crowds.

One reason i hate downtown is the old, smoky casinos. Casinos with good air systems and high ceilings can make a difference. In the future know that many casinos have no-smoking sections/tables - not ideal - the best one can do.

The security lines at LAS are notoriously long on certain D%26#39;sOW and holidays - 55 minutes is not unheard of.

Some visitors have no chocie except to visit at busy times - they need to know the true skinny

not sure why anything you mention would be unexpected. if you just skim this forum or do any kind of research you will find all these discussed many times over.

Just got back from this weekend as well. Didnt travel on the Deuce but it looked painfull.

The smoke at the casinos and hotels was overwhelming. I knew that it would be smokey but not that intense.

Vegas is busy on Holiday Weekends!!!! WOW I am surprised!!! Maybe try going on an off time and you will not find the crowds!!!! I am no longer telling when I am going so NO ONE else comes!!! Maybe it will just be my group in Vegas(LOL).

I am curious.... how did you like Cafe Baba Reba (sp) and Battista%26#39;s?

Smokers have the utmost disdain for the comfort of others.

Banning it in public areas is long overdue. Some say it is ridiculous to keep it out of casinos, but actually it is ridiculous that this obnoxious nuisance was ever allowed to plague us anywhere

Thats the only complaint that my husband had during our trip. He is a nonsmoker, and he said sitting at the blackjack tables was painful at times, because of the smoking. I had to agree with him, it was awful at times in the casinos.

I smoke, but I hate sitting in smoky bars, on anywhere that lots of people are smoking, how ironic is that??? I will ask for non-smoking sections when we go out to dinner, because I don%26#39;t want to smell cigarette smoke when I am eating, and out of respect for him, at home its the same, I only smoke outside in my yard. I don%26#39;t allow smoking in my house and my guests respect that.

Maybe at some point they will ban smoking from the casinos, or least put more limitations on it.
