Can you believe this???

Hey guys, just got back from staying at the Gamour suite (MGM Grand) and the room and hotel were very nice, well one very bad thing. I went down and placed a $150 2 team parlee bet in the sports book area. As the cocktail waitress was walking by she was asking for drinks. I said yes, I%26#39;ll take one. She asked to see my paper to confirm I made a bet and then said you need to make $200 and over to get a drink. I thought this was crazy. Does this happen at all the big hotels on the strip now? It was my first trip in a year. $200 for a drink???? When I told my friend he said that%26#39;s B.S. because he was just at the slots and played like $20 and got a drink. Maybe it is just the sports book area there or what? I like betting on sports but won%26#39;t bet there anymore. Any comments??????

Can you believe this???

I haven%26#39;t been in the sports book area but play pennies and have never been told I have to play a minimum amount to get a drink anywhere in Vegas. (or Nevada as far as that goes)

Can you believe this???

OK just wondering why you are asking us now. Why didn%26#39;t you ask somebody while you were there?

Recently I was told that if my bet on the horses was not $20 that the window staff would have to issue a comp drink ticket for my drink in the sports book. I can%26#39;t remember which casino that was but it was the first time I had had any limitation on the drink for play theme.

I just asked the window staff and he handed me six or seven comp tickets.

Not sure about MGM, but every sports book I went to, as long as I had bet tickets in front of me they would bring me drinks! Heck even at some I got a drink as soon as I arrived, was just standing there and they asked if I needed a drink....

Ya that%26#39;s pretty crazy... $200 bets to get a drink? Does she come back to your hotel room also? geesh

But did you win your parlay?

Hitchhiker, I%26#39;m glad you saw through the distractions and got right to the heart of the matter!!

The $200 minimum was in effect because you didn%26#39;t have drink tickets. They generally don%26#39;t give a complimentary drink to anybody that doesn%26#39;t have drink tickets in the sports book - but exceptions are made for barneys. They should have hooked you up when you placed your bet but a lot of the tellers are full time losers - you really have to pry the tickets out of them.

You could have slid over to the horse section and waived a $2 ticket to get a drink. Or, a few posters have said that Bellagio and another casino (maybe The Venetian) don%26#39;t use tickets.

Definitely ask for drink tickets when you place sports bets (except at the Bellagio, where everyone seems to be served).

I must respectfully disagree with open wide about the tellers in the race and sports book. These employees are usually friendly to me and readily hand over drink tickets. In fact, DH and I almost always have more than we can use are happily share them with others.

OK, alright, I%26#39;ll rephrase my original (removed) question.

What did you do or say to aggravate the young lady? Personally, I have never had a problem getting free potent potables in Las Vegas, but then I%26#39;m always polite and I always tip well.

Better?
