any help would be useful

No - just show your driving licence or passport if you win more than $1000 to prove your from the UK .

The post by superwires is inaccurate on a couple of counts. Firstly the threshold for tax on gambling winnings is $1200 not $1000, and secondly a UK citizen would have to fill out forms to get an IRS ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) not simply show ID in order to not have to pay tax.

irs.gov/individuals/鈥hat

blagger - do i need to fill this out before or after i win

There%26#39;s nothing like confidence! You%26#39;d need to do this after you (hopefully) win. I%26#39;m not exactly certain what the procedures involve. Perhaps some overseas posters with experience of this can tell you more.

cheers bladder - cos i will win its vegas lol

delboy, gotta love your outlook. ';They%26#39;ll send a car.';

if you win over $1200 they will take 30% of your win in tax off you you can get this back if you get an ITIN number from the IRS, if you have already got one they wont touch your money and anything you win you keep.

good luck

Depending on the games you played.

If you are playing BJ %26amp; win a few grand or even over $10 grand, doubted anyone will even notice and IRS jumping on you if you cashed in your chips few grand at a time. Cashier windows will not raised any eyebrow on a few grand cashing out.

If you hit the big one at the slot, that will be a different story..

Now, I%26#39;m not an expert on the US income tax system but it appears to me that you can apply for and receive a TIN in advance of your trip. You could then prepare a form W-8BEN in advance and have it ready to provide to the casino should the need arise.
