Leaving tomorrow...

10 things I want to do this time in Vegas. We will be downtown at the Golden Nugget. We were there 6 months ago and I want a new experience.

1. Have 99 cent Shrimp Cocktail at the Golden Gate

2. Visit the Casinos I missed last time: California, Main Street Station, El Cortez and Golden Gate

3. the Oxygen Bar

4. The Jerky Store

5. have a cheap prime rib dinner at Tony Roma%26#39;s

6. slushys at La Bayou (okay so I%26#39;ve done that before!)

7. find $3 craps and BJ

8. bet on a college football game in the Sports Book

9. try a hold em tourney

10. find the tackiest Vegas christmas ornament ever for our family exchange ;-)

Any more suggestions?

There%26#39;s a couple of things on your list you can do at the California Hotel. They have $3 bj, a very good prime rib special for $7.25 that includes a potato, vegetable, soup or salad bar and cherries jubilee over ice cream. Golden Gate has $3 bj. The .99 shrimp cocktail consists of the very small salad size shrimp but you can the larger size for $2.99. Try the Bay City Diner at the Golden Gate if you get a chance.

Thanks! I am keeping a log of all the advice I have read on here and I will put it in my TR.

Question: Do you know if you can purchase the 2008 Casino Guide either at the airport or downtown? I just found out about it and could use the savings. We are planning on seeing Defending the Caveman and just that coupon alone would pay for the book.

You sound like just the things I did in Nov. Only thing I didn%26#39;t do on your list is the betting on college football. Totally lost on that for me. Don%26#39;t know a thing about it.

Sher

So how did the others work out? Any suggestions? I love Downtown and want to experience all of it.

Ok 2nd not going to Tony Romas and doing the California Prime Rib Special instead. 2nd the big shrimp instead of small also.

And you can buy the ACG at the Gamblers General Store I know, but dont know if its available anywhere downtown.

I have never stayed downtown so can%26#39;t comment on that.

Do try the oxygen bar. I did it for the first time on my last day in Oct. and it was great. I wish I had done it sooner. They should have one in every hotel. They would make a mint.

I only stay downtown. Well, it%26#39;s because on US Airways, it%26#39;s the cheapest and we only sleep in the hotel a few hours so we don%26#39;t care and we always rent a car so we can get to the strip. Like I said, your list is nearly like mine except I don%26#39;t do the college thing. I did three shrimp cocktails, they were great. Did California, Golden Gate, and tried to get to El Cortez, just wasn%26#39;t sure about the neighborhood. That jerky store, Ok only bought a bottle of water but don%26#39;t miss it, lots of different foods that never hit me that were out there. Love it and stayed for a while. Very interesting. Well didn%26#39;t do Tony Roma%26#39;s because I can do that at home but did the seafood buffet there. Lots of slushys at La Bayou and Mermaids, save the half yard for refills. Didn%26#39;t buy the tackiest Vegas ornament but did buy the tackiest sweatshirt at the two story shop across from the Fitzgerald.

I will be D/T Vegas next week. What and where is the Jerky Store?

VanMaple, this is where the Jerky store is located downtown, took it from another post:

There is a place on third (take a left if you go from say the Golden Nugget to Third Street and look about a half block up on the right) that is called the Beef Jerky Store. Don%26#39;t let the name fool you though-they have jerkied about everything other than a tennis shoe. I got Tofu jerky, salmon jerky, cuttlefish jerky (that one was too fishy) as well as gummi snacks, nuts, and the like. A really nice Philipino family runs the place and it%26#39;s always a stop for me when I go. I try and experiment with some new snack or jerkied item. If you aren%26#39;t going for a while, or want to check them out, do a search on yahoo for beef jerky store vegas and I bet you%26#39;ll find them. I am in no way compensated or otherwise for the shameless plug-just wanted to give a shoutout for a place I like to visit and a nice family business. Happy chewing!

Thanks jdmss!

I%26#39;ll check it out next week. I can snack on some jerky while walking to the Gamblers General Store on Main Street.
